Locusts of Revelation, an AI experiment - Part 2 of 3. Before getting to the second round of Deep Dream's renditions of the text, I want to include another AI that I was able to try. "DeepAI.org" aka AttnGAN. This site provided a brief trial in which I was able to produce 40 images before hitting a paywall. I would have continued regardless, but the results were very disappointing and I did not think it was worth my time to take it further with this platform. Once a style was chosen, the variation between images was minimal. So, it was not getting even within the ballpark of the text, and it also was not changing much in each iteration. The works that were produced were fine in the sense that they are not terrible, but they do not meet enough criteria for me to even bother taking data as I have been with Deep Dream. I will separate the images by the style modifiers chosen. Because of repetition in results, I began to change the style after a few to get some variation in hopes it would get closer to the text.

You set a style modifier and input text. The only other option was to choose a "shape," and I chose landscape. At first I believed this was likely to increase the variation. This is the first style modifier chosen. Text only parameters - “The locusts looked like horses prepared for battle. On their heads they wore something like crowns of gold, and their faces resembled human faces. Their hair was like women's hair, and their teeth were like lions' teeth. They had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the thundering of many horses and chariots rushing into battle. They had tails and stings like scorpions, and in their tails they had power to torment people for five months. They had as king over them the angel of the Abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek, Apollyon.”

These first ten attempts were quite similar in an overall sense, but looking at each one for a while, there are nuances to them all. Overall, I still found it boring and far from the goal. I then changed the style.

The second style looked somewhat like an older cartoon from the newspaper. After the results from the first renderings, I was not expecting much.

Style modifier 3 was vibrant and cartoonish. I had an expectation that the results would also be vibrant or cartoonish, but the ended up being much more similar to Style 2.

After the 40th render, I hit the paywall. After 4 styles, all very different styles, but mostly just getting similar pictures of horses, it did not seem worth pursuing for this purpose. I do like the images. I would not say any of them are bad art. It is just too far from the target.
