For the Seven Trumpets of Revelation: Part 2 of 2, I will cover the images produced by the AI for trumpets 4 through 7. I will discuss some of them, but not as analytically to the verse as I have in the past. Many of them I appreciate for the art and did not get terribly interested in the accuracy to the related verses.
The Fourth Trumpet
Revelation 8:12 "The fourth angel sounded his trumpet, and a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them turned dark. A third of the day was without light, and also a third of the night."
I like the old world art style like this. It reminds me of something you may see in an old Latin theological book.
I like the contrast shown in this image. At first, it could give the illusion of the light versus dark, but if you look at the opposing teams, both are composed of the same entities.
The projection in the parted clouds makes me think of the Time Machine by H.G. Wells. It seems like a sort of chronometer, and there appear to be astrological signs around the border.
The AI, artistically, has no respect for gravity or the problems that the proximity of these celestial bodies would cause.
This image stand out to me. It has the feeling of an old wood cut, but with enough detail to seem more modern. The composition lends more to the older style as well.
The entire verse is about thirds, however every image keeps being represented in halves. This was fairly consistent and I cannot pinpoint why when "a third" was referenced 6 times in the two sentences of the verse.
To the right appears to be Earth. The form of North America seems very clearly depicted.
The positioning in this image is better than most for showing causation that is implied. At the mouth of the trumpet is the sun, clearly being affected.
This is set up as almost a comparative, but the sequence and subject do not follow the verse.
The dichotomy is strong with this one.
My favorite part of this image is that all three have trumpets they are actively playing... but for some reason the angel in the top left also has a cello...
This image may be the nearest to impressionism that I have seen. If the style were prompted, I'm certain it would not be an issue for the AI. It is only noteworthy because it was unprompted, and the variation from the other iterations.
The face on the sun in this one freaks me out. I don't like how he looks at me.
There appear to be winged goats behind him. In one prior image, something underdeveloped but matching shape had appeared. Unclear what algorithmic connection there would be.
The Fifth Trumpet - AKA The Locusts of Revelation
Revelation 9:1-6"The fifth angel sounded his trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from the sky to the earth. The star was given the key to the shaft of the Abyss. When he opened the Abyss, smoke rose from it like the smoke from a gigantic furnace. The sun and sky were darkened by the smoke from the Abyss. And out of the smoke locusts came down on the earth and were given power like that of scorpions of the earth. They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any plant or tree, but only those people who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads. They were not allowed to kill them but only to torture them for five months. And the agony they suffered was like that of the sting of a scorpion when it strikes. During those days people will seek death but will not find it; they will long to die, but death will elude them."
This was the first project attempted back when I discovered Deep Dream Generator. The program has been continually updated, and the results are quite different than the first run. There are many reasons why, one being additions to the ability to steer the AI toward a certain art style. I think that made the largest impact on the variation. Over time, it has also become far less common to have nonsensical images produced. While that is a welcomed change, I did always enjoy the occasional nonsense.
I won't comment on the images specifically, as I have already written a lot regarding the topic in other posts.
The Sixth Trumpet
Revelation 9:13-16"The sixth angel sounded his trumpet, and I heard a voice coming from the four horns of the golden altar that is before God. It said to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates.” And the four angels who had been kept ready for this very hour and day and month and year were released to kill a third of mankind. The number of the mounted troops was twice ten thousand times ten thousand. I heard their number."
This first iteration seems like a pretty decent interpretation of the text. The multitudes in the troops is depicted quite well. However, the AI did not pay much mind to the specific numbers given, such as the 4 angels.
While quite neat, this image does not seem to fit well to what is described. Multitudes are represented, and I love the wave.
This image may be the closest to the text that was produced. The mounted army, trumpeting angel, additional released angels and a chronometer of some sort are all represented.
I enjoy the lack of color in this image as much as I have the vivid colors in the other images.
Images like this that the AI produces always intrigue me. The ground is covered by mounted units... Or is it? At a glance, it does look like that, but the longer you study the image,
The Seventh Trumpet
Revelation 11:15-19"The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, which said: “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah, and he will reign for ever and ever.” And the twenty-four elders, who were seated on their thrones before God, fell on their faces and worshiped God, saying: “We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, the One who is and who was, because you have taken your great power and have begun to reign. The nations were angry, and your wrath has come. The time has come for judging the dead, and for rewarding your servants the prophets and your people who revere your name, both great and small and for destroying those who destroy the earth.” Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and within his temple was seen the ark of his covenant. And there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake and a severe hailstorm."
